Welcome!  This is my blog dedicated to my book Charles Babbage from the beginning.  This is the place where I will post the various publicity photos and interviews, press cuttings and other material relating to the launch of my book.

Charles Babbage was character who fascinated me and at the start of the project I wanted to write the biography of this man for two reasons:  firstly because his influence as ‘the grandfather of the computer’, and secondly because he was a local man.  I have written other books on famous people who have a Devon connection  – but as soon as I started researching Babbage it became very clear to me that his influence was at least national and I daresay global!  Babbage was a man of so much intellect and inventiveness that his legacy extends much further than his work on the analytical and difference engines.

So – Babbage deserves wider coverage than merely local.  His teaming up with Ada Byron brought together two comparable intellects and so I felt they needed a blog all to themselves.  It is indeed a story to be told
